Yarn Along--last of June

A happy Wednesday to you!
I am back again for Ginny's weekly Yarn Along.  I still haven't finished To Kill a Mockingbird (as great as it is, I have been opting for knitting over reading in bed the last few nights) and today we will finish up The Bronze Bow.  I am going through many books and online sources with lists of books and deciding what we will be reading this year to enrich our history, geography and science.  On the science front (and unlike my boys, I am not into space travel, paleontology and the chemicals necessary to make explosions and stink bombs) I tend towards a weakness for nature guides.  This one, in spite of the fact that it is large and illustrated and thus not a field guide, is fantastic and I highly recommend it.  It is really packed with information and the lovely illustrations are done in such a way as to encourage us in our nature journaling.

I am behind in my knitting.  I have given myself a month per sweater, and I am a week into this one, and not as far as I had hoped to be due to the fact that I had to do a gauge swatch and then fiddle with the gauge to get the right size.  I was separating for the sleeves when I realized that the thing was going to be too small for Gabriel, so I had to do some backing up.  The pattern is the Children's Tunic from Knitting Pure and Simple (I so enjoyed doing Sebastian's Henley from the same source), and the yarn is Universal Yarns Classic Shades.  It is beautiful, but hardly as nice to work with as the 100% merino I used on the Henley; it is a bit splitty and it is a real pain if you have to rip back--it doesn't like to come apart!

Well, that's it for this week...I am looking forward to dropping by everyone else's blog to see who is reading and knitting what.  If you need some ideas for great summer reading or lovely patterns or yarns to try out, drop by the Yarn Along at Small Things!

  1. We have some great state parks where I live. That book would sure come in handy!

  2. I love trees. I have since I was a child. My husband felt it was necessary to cut down a tree close to our pool, and I was heartbroken.

I like to follow the Yarn Along, despite not being a knitter, to see what everyone is reading. I usually have 2 or 3 books going at one time. :)

  3. Splitty yarn is a real pain. Along with balls of yarn that have joins half way through. Hope the knitting goes well this time!

  4. Unknitting is never fun. Splitty yarn is even more icky. I hope you have it sorted out and are knitting away again! Love the color.
