Yarn Along--bad starts

I'm joining Ginny over at Small Things for her second Yarn Along.  It is lots of fun to see what everyone is reading and knitting.

I meant to post first thing this morning, but several things prevented this.  Last night I took a photo of my knitting with the book I was going to start reading, someone's memoir passed on to me by my visiting mother-in-law, but a few pages in I found I couldn't go on with it. It was depressing and there was too much bad language, to which I have become happily unaccustomed.  So I put it aside.  This meant that I had to take another photo this morning with the book I actually am now reading.  Our read-aloud this week is The Willoughbys, which I am now also wishing I hadn't started.  It is not at all the kind of book I go for in a read-aloud.  Rather like A Series of Unfortunate Events, in that its humor is rather dark.  I have too much darkness in my own past to enjoy such things.

The fingerless gloves I am making as a gift had a false start as well, with me going too far on the ribbing that the pattern required.  I didn't feel like improvising, so I started over.

And I guess I wasn't off to a fabulous start myself this morning, with Gemma having awakened from a bad dream last night and having stayed up for the next two hours.  I was up from about 1:15 a.m. until just after 3:30 a.m.

I am feeling a bit dull and heavy this morning.

  4. I am the same way about books and movies. When the language is so horrid the story is lost to me. Good job walking away from it!!
Sorry about you night. Nights like that are hard to rebound from!

  5. I appreciate your 'truth' behind the false starts, it seems like this week has been that for me and I found comfort in your post today! I hope your day turns around and that tomorrow starts in the best way!

  6. Hope you get some rest tonight! I can't read those kind of books either. I couldn't even get it together enough to take a picture of my knitting and book... Next week!

  7. So sorry Nadja!
I can't tolerate those children's books full of dark humor either!

  8. Sorry you're feeling poorly today, and trust me, I've had many more false starts than I care to admit with knitting. Joyful rest this evening :)

  9. Hi Nadja :) Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a lovely comment on my yarn :) I'm sorry to hear of the false starts with your book and gloves, but don't worry you're not alone! I had to rip out half my hat last night and start from the beginning when I realized I had read the pattern wrong and was supposed to use 2 strands of yarn together instead of one. I was wondering why my hat looked miniature *grin*. Hope you are enjoying your afternoon :)
