Wynnewood on the Fourth of July

Took the kids to historic Wynnewood in Castalian Springs.  It is, I believe, the largest 19th century log structure built.  The building had been terribly damaged by a tornado some years ago, and yesterday was its grand reopening.

It was wonderful to see all the Civil War and Revolutionary War era costumes, although I really felt quite sorry for them, and especially for he gent above on the right in his woolens!  It must have been close to 100 degrees out there and very little shade.

It might have been a nice time but for the extreme heat, my hayfever attack and the fact that the boys accidentally stirred up a few wasps and Gabe and Sebastian got stung.  We were there for only 30 minutes or so.

Hope to go back sometime when they have another event...maybe in the fall.

  1. I love visiting historical sites but would have to pass on a sweltering summer day! Those poor folks who were in character! Hope you had a great 4th! +JMJ+

  2. The one reenactor in your pictures with the confederate hat and white shirt, dark hair and go-tee (spelling?) in a picture with a man smoking is the same man that my sons were talking to at an event in Tullahoma on Saturday. It's a small world. Thanks for posting about this. We may try to visit there sometime. God bless.
