Monday Musings--7 May 2012

Right now...it is 10:30 as I begin this post; who knows what time it will be when I finally hit the "publish" button. Outside it is warm, partly sunny, and the air is fairly still.  I got a good start on the day this morning: so far today I have made Bret's lunch, made butter, put up yogurt to incubate, washed and hung out two loads of laundry, paid bills, made my bed, washed dishes and prayed our morning prayers with the kids.

It was a lovely morning for hanging out laundry.  Gemma handed me the clothes to hang, and we watched the soaring buzzards, the darting barn swallows (they swooped so close to us!) and the bluebirds who sat on the fence posts watching us watching them.

This weekend...was very nice, but very busy.  Bret worked until 3, and we all worked together to tidy up the house and yard.  The mail brought yarn and a book that I ordered, and that made me pretty happy, as I had been holding off on starting any new knitting projects until I the new yarn arrived.

Sunday was lovely.  There was a lovely Mass and very good homily from Fr. Lou Caporiccio, CPM.  We are so fortunate to have bold, outspoken priests at the Chapel of Divine Mercy.  By the way, if you would like to hear some of the homilies of these very good mission priests, you can download their Sunday homilies for free right here.  After picking up a few groceries, we came home and spent a couple of hours knitting.

Some plans for this week:  Oh, another busy week!  But I guess they are all busy; at least I can't recall not having anything to do in a week.  Still, this one seem pretty full.  Tomorrow I am hoping to make a batch of granola.  On Wednesday I want to make Biscotti; on Thursday bread and on Friday I have to bake two cakes--a cheese cake for Mother's Day and a chocolate Bundt cake for Sebastian's birthday, which we hope to celebrate a few days early on Saturday, the reason for that being that if the weather looks fair, we will be headed to a Folk Medicine Festival in Red Boiling Springs, and since Sebastian's birthday gift is to be a digital camcorder, we thought he might like to use it to do a bit of video recording at the festival.  That's a long sentence and a lot of commas.

Besides all the kitchen duty and the usual house keeping chores, I have to work on one of Sebastian's gifts, try to finish up some custom watercolor journals and perhaps begin one of several sewing projects I have planned.  I also need to wash some windows--they look pretty bad!

If I can find some time for myself, I would like to...work on my knitting!  I am making a sweater for myself.  This is the first time I have ever knit anything for myself, and I am pretty excited.

I am grateful for...beautiful weather; my children's love of dressing up in medieval costume; the intense green of spring; life, health and family.

Some prayer intentions for this week:  that I might, with God's grace, have a productive week; for Bret to find time to work on the house; for peace, laughter and love of God to reign in our home.

Something that makes me smile:   Seeing that my children are having the kind of childhood I would have like to have had myself.

Wishing you a blessed week!

  1. Just popping in to say hello! We just got home from our second round of rabies shots... a rabid bat got into our house, and the authorities strongly suggested we all get the shots despite not being aware of any contact. I now know more about bats and rabies than I ever really wanted to. It's been rough, and we have three more rounds to go. Your musings sound pleasant as always! +JMJ+
