Monday Musings--7 November 2011

I started this post early this morning, but as so often happens, I was interrupted and couldn't bet back to it until nearly lunch time!

Right now...it is 5:45 and we are experiencing the downside of going off Daylight Savings Time:  all my kids are up already, and I am guessing that by 6:30 they will all be asking when breakfast will be ready!  Ugh...it is just not worth it.  I don't like this time-change thing at all...

This weekend...was quite lovely.  I had a visit on Saturday morning from my dear friend whom I'd not seen in ages, and then another friend came by and spent some time with us.  It was really nice to have some adult company for the first time in many moons.

Yesterday we went to an early Mass (since we were all up at the crack of dawn with the time change) and chatted in the sunshine and whirling autumn leaves with friends for a long time afterwards.  At home I changed clothes and attacked my knitting basket.  Yes, I spent about 5 hours knitting yesterday...with some of the knitters I know, that would have been enough time to finish a project, but I do not knit quickly, and I just managed to work a bit on Gabriel's sweater (nearly done) and begin work on Adrian's.

Some plans for this week:  Let's see; school, naturally, and I have to start thinking about Thanksgiving and Advent. Later today I need to do the dreaded checkbook.  I need to get online and look around for some quality things I can get for the kids for Christmas.  We generally do not over-do it with gifts (who can afford to with a large family?), and several gifts are things like board games which are shared, but this year I am stumped when it comes to the individual gifts.

If I find some time for myself, I would like to...work on painting three little wooden families I have for the Etsy shop, case in some of my pocket-sized watercolor sketchbooks and work on Adrian's sweater.

Special prayer intentions for this week:  For two Matthews (my nephew, and the Matthew Ginny has requested prayers for), for Bret's health and strength to hold out as he begins the work of framing the house towards the end of the week (he is getting a cortisone shot in his shoulder today, as it has been giving him problems); for the weather to be wonderful throughout November, so that there will be no delays in building; for safe travel to Chicago for a friend and her family; for the faithful departed in this month of the Holy Souls.

Something that makes me smile:  a leaf-fight in the autumn sunshine after Mass

As always, you are welcome to join in the Monday Musings...just grab the header image for your own post and link back here.  You can leave a link to your own Musings in the comments if you want.  Have a great week!

  1. So glad you had a nice weekend and got to enjoy your friends! We celebrated my mother's 70th b-day yesterday. I made all her favorites. Like you, I am thinking and planning for Thanksgiving and Advent. I've been roughly sketching on paper the idea I have for a Thanksgiving centerpiece. I hope it pulls together as pretty as it looks in my head! :) Have a good week. ~Annita +JMJ+

  2. Well...at least you remembered it was daylight savings time. We ate lunch a little early today (an hour early!) because I hadn't changed the kitchen clock...so we're a bit off around here too. I hope you get plenty of 'you' time to finish your little wooden family and your other projects that sound equally interesting to get back to.
