Monday Musings--17 October 2011

Right now...I'm in a bit of a rush.  It is seven, and hence way too late for me to be sitting here on a Monday morning, but I got all caught up looking at the fall sale items on the Land's End site before realizing that there is really nothing there I need.  It's just that "60% Off" line that got me looking...

This weekend was... sort of busy, but not particularly interesting, and with all we've been doing lately, I am glad for the break.  On Saturday I spent the better part of the day finalizing the Changing of the Wardrobe.  I still have to make everyone try on winter jackets and make sure they all fit. The one good thing about this dreaded task is that I get rid of a lot of stuff.

I got a little knitting done, made butter and took an empire-waisted dress that I didn't like and Una didn't fit, and turned it into a skirt I think she actually will wear.  And I ordered two bushels of apples from the food co-op.  Una spent the night at the home of friends.  I miss her presence this morning.

Some plans for this week:  This month is going by too quickly!  I really need to do windows today, as the weather is getting much cooler this week, and it may rain tomorrow.  Bret is going up to the KY property to bale some hay before it rains.

I have my watercolor sketchbooks to work on for the Etsy shop and a list of other things I want to make for the shop before Thanksgiving, I have costumes to help the kids with--I don't know that I am up to a "Halloween Party" this year (too much to do!), but the kids like to dress up, play some games and have a treasure hunt for their candy.  I think that I am stuck with that, having established a precedent for the past few years.  I also have my checkbook to do...yech.  Being a grown-up kind of stinks sometimes...

If I find some time for myself, I would like to...try to make a couple of fall/winter dresses for Gemma.  She is rather short on clothing, especially long-sleeved stuff.  And I need to sit down with a calender and notebook and start making some holiday plans and lists.

I am grateful for...the return of health to a friend's son; the long stretch of beautiful "Indian Summer" we have enjoyed; for children who are understanding and easy to please (usually!)

Some prayer intentions for this week:  for Bret to be able to get some hay in (square bales are back-breaking to load, and the boy's aren't old enough to lift them yet); for my friend who just had a plumbing incident and has to deal with water damage and insurance adjusters today; for the strength, organization and determination to do what I have to do this week and all weeks before Christmas.

Something that makes me smile:  playing with a tarp on a windy day!
