{pretty, happy, funny, real}: 1 September 2011

~ Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~

I am joining Deirdre this week for another edition of {pretty, happy, funny, real}, offering you a few glimpses into our lives here...

{pretty}

Gemma is in the "I do it!" phase right now.  Getting her dressed takes much longer than it used to.  Still, I thought this a {pretty} shot of her trying to get her dress on.

{happy}

I was blown away this week by the arrival of a package from my Sending Love Heart Swap partner.  She sent a beautiful (and beautifully scented) rice-filled heating pad, a bottle of maple syrup, some chocolates and this gorgeous pottery bowl, which she made herself.  Thank you so much, Nan!

  I have one very {happy} little five year old right now, who just learned to ride his two-wheeler!

He hasn't quite managed back-peddling to brake, usually just riding onto the grass and dropping the bike when he wants to stop, but he doesn't seem to mind.

Our honey from the Mennonites was ready to be picked up this week.  Two gallons of pure, unpasteurized bliss...

{funny}

Gemma does this quite often.  Since we are potty training, she frequently has, um, less than this on her bottom, and I have to stop her from potentially rude displays...And yes, those are her brother's shoes on her feet.

{real}

Why does my {real} so frequently involve photos of big, ugly insects?  Because of Gabriel, who loves all things big, ugly and insect-like.  He had to bring in this newly-hatched cicada for me to photograph.

  2. Well, as I said yesterday, Gemma looks lovely in the sunlight. There is nothing like the excitement of learning to ride a bike without training wheels! I try to see the "beauty" in bugs, but I'm really not a bug kind of gal! Have a wonderful afternoon! +JMJ+

  3. I think there's something ethereal about those just-hatched cicada. We like bugs here, too. Thanks for sharing--Bethanne

  5. Sweet post! I love that moment when they start riding the bike - but can't stop! And I remember my own adventure with that, long ago :)
