Monday Musings--Feast of St. Nicholas, 2010

Right now...it is ten past noon, and I am struggling to keep awake after a bad night.  Headache, Sebastian having some tummy trouble and being in the bathroom a lot after 2 a.m., Dominic coming into our room and coughing a lot and me finally moving to the sofa and not being able to get back to sleep for a while all contributed to my current exhausted state.

This weekend...was great, but not without a few bumps.  On Saturday I made butter, worked on the Christmas stockings, made a gift for one of my kids (who reads the blog, so I can't say what it is) and did laundry and ironing.

We went to Mass in Gallatin on Sunday in order to take part in our Goddaughter's baptism afterward.  She is scrumptious, don't you think?

After the baptism, we went to our friends--the parent's--house for lunch and a bit of socializing.  When we piled into our van four hours later, it wouldn't start.  Try as we might, we couldn't get the engine to turn over.  After 15 minutes of sitting in the freezing van, we went back into the house, where the kids were given hot cocoa and cookies and the men discussed the problem.  Our dear friends were so kind and gave us their van to take home.  This morning Bret called to have our van towed to a nearby mechanic's and returned the borrowed van.

This morning the kids awoke to chocolate Santas and chocolate gold and silver coins in their shoes, along with notes from St. Nicholas telling each child what he or she has done well and in what areas they might try to improve.

School is cancelled for the day.  I need a nap, and I am determined to find a way to get one!

Some plans for the week:  Well, it is hard to say.  Other than trying to get out some Christmas cards, work on some gifts and do a little baking, I don't know whether we will be able to go shopping or run errands.

Some prayer intentions:  For Nancy; for Deanna, who is having surgery on her foot on Thursday; for my friend Cindy and her family; for Marilyn and her sick brood.  And for a happy employment situation for Bret.

Something that makes me smile:  Girl babies with downy hair, smelling of chrism!

Blessed Feast Day - off to decorate Saint Nicholas cookies. We had car trouble too - Steve took it to the garage this afternoon.
