The Feast of St. Sebastian

Today is my firstborn son's name day. We have a chocolate cake baked, but unfortunately the image of St. Sebastian that I had pasted to cardboard, cut out and attached to a skewer to jab into the cake each year is gone--too many years of use--and my printer is out of ink. So he is going to have to do without a Saint-topped cake today. I'm sure it'll taste as good.

The statue above is in the church of St. Anne in Munich, Germany, where I spent the better part of my formative years. The city, not the church (I'm a late-comer to Catholicism).

We joke around with my boy a lot, especially when he is asked to do anything tedious to him and he heaves a heavy sigh of resignation. We call him "Sebastian the Martyr"...

St. Sebastian, ora pro nobis!

  1. Happy name day, Sebastian! I love this name; however, with our last name, I have always been cautious with naming our children. Have fun today! JMJ
