Yarn Along--pleasant pusuits

I'm back for Ginny's Wednesday Yarn Along again this week, having just completed the first sleeve of her Sunday Sweater pattern last night at around 9:30.  I had to take the photo beneath the fluorescent light in my workroom this morning, so the color is a bit off.  This pattern has been lovely, and I think I'll have to keep making these as Gemma gets older.  The yarn has been delightful to knit with, too; it is Cestari Traditional in Burgundy Heather, and it is as soft as cotton.  The leaves in the photo are some I pressed with the kids in hopes of dipping them in beeswax soon.

As for my reading, I am on the last chapter or two of Cold Mountain.  I must say, I have warmed up to the characters a bit at this point.  It took a very long time for them to develop, and most of the supporting characters were pretty unlikable   Made the book rather tedious at times.  As for the "beautiful writing" many of the reviews on Amazon noted, I found the artistry of language to be of a far greater caliber in The Red Badge of Courage.  I love the English language used beautifully, and although it wasn't bad in Cold Mountain, it didn't stand out in my mind, either.

Back to knitting:  I have a long queue of projects lined up, mainly mitts, hats and cowls for Christmas, although I love doing sweaters and pullovers and will be tempted to cast on another.  I have a box of new yarn from Knit Picks, and am rubbing my hands together in delight and anticipation.

Christmas!  what are you knitting for Christmas?  What are your favorite "quick project" patterns?

  3. I've just started Christmas gifts too. Although, I'm in Australia so it's way to hot for wooly garments as gifts. But I am almost finished a knitted gnome and owl for my youngest son, and will do some crochet play food for my older son.

  4. oh my christmas list seems so long. lol and all i am knitting for is the kids... but there are six of them. i have three sweater vests to knit, 6 gnome hats and a special something for my hubby (i have no idea what that is yet!) a few of my gifts to the kids are going to be sewn (i am learning to use a sewing machine) so that helps, but still, eeeep!
the purple of the sunday sweater is beautiful, but i have always loved purple.

  8. Florescent lights or no, such a beautiful sweater. I love the color too. I am knitting scarves, legwarmers, perhaps some mitts. We'll see how it turns out!
