Eulogy for Bertram Chanticleer

Farewell, Bertram Chanticleer!
Favored fowl, cock'rell most dear;
With crimson comb and feathered charm,
Thou pompous prince of our small farm;
'Tis well that now you should be toasted:
You 'scaped the pot yet still were roasted.

  1. We lost so many chickens this spring, I could have written a small booklet of poems...the saddest loss was of our brave rooster, King Henry...taken in the middle of the day by a bold fox. We miss him dearly. Sorry for your loss!

  3. I really am sorry about your chickens, but your poem is cute! I hope it helped lighten the loss for all. Have a good one! +JMJ+

  4. Bummer about the chickens lost to a hot coop, but I have to admit chuckling over the "Ode"!
