Yarn Along--making headway

Yes!  I finished off the body of Dominic's pullover last night, and am ready to go for the sleeves.  Barring unforeseen circumstances, I might just finish this thing in another ten days or so, blocking and all.

After knitting what seemed forever on Gabriel's Adrian's Gabriel's hooded tunic (see the last Yarn Along for more on that) with beautiful-but-difficult yarn, this thing is just flying off the needles!  The yarn is Wool of the Andes from Knit Picks.  I am a bit unhappy with the Green Tea Heather (center of stripe), as it is doesn't appear to be heathered at all, and is too bright for my liking.  Oh well, children grow, and there is always next year, right?

The pattern is a super-easy one.  I just don't bother with seamed patterns anymore, there are too many great seamless ones out there.  The only trouble with this one is the sizing.  I followed the advice of other knitters of this pattern and went up a size or more.  Dominic is a slim 5, and I went ahead and used the stitch numbers for the size 8 (I tend to be a really tight knitter).and I still am getting a chest measurement of only 25 inches before blocking.  It will fit him, but only because he is a string bean.

I am reading the same thing I was reading last week, namely Drawing with Children and Books Children Love, and I am still perusing my other books of book lists.  After reading A Little Way of Homeschooling, I really want to read some more books on "unschooling"  (I really hate the term--apologies to John Holt--as it seems to conjure up mental impressions of ignorant kids for me, and that isn't at all the case, of course).  Can't say I'm ready for radical unschooling, but I certainly am going to try to have a lot more fun with the kids and their own interests this year.

If you enjoy books and knitting, you will want to stop by Small Things and join in Ginny's wildly popular Yarn Along.  It's fun to see what everyone has on their nightstand and needles...

  1. Very cute pullover. Drawing with Children is on my reading list. SO many people recommend it. Haven't gotten around to it yet.

  2. In the picture it looks like the green is a nice contrast, I like it. But that's the best part of creating it yourself - if it doesn't turn out the way you'd hoped there is always next time :)

  7. How nice to do a quick project after a marathon of a knit. The sweater looks good. I'm sure the stripe will look more pleasing when the sweater is complete.
