Monday Musings--25 July 2011

Right now...nearly 6:30 a.m.  Una is up, done with chores and working on something on the computer.  Otherwise the house is still.  It's drizzling out, and already really warm.  Temperatures in the mid to high 90's all week are expected.  Yuck.

This weekend...was okay, nothing much to write about.  On Friday I got an inspiration with regards to Dominic's birthday next Thursday.  I am making him something, but it will mean a lot of last-minute hustle and bustle to get it done in time.  And maybe a trip to Hobby Lobby in Bowling Green if we can make it.  Saturday was the usual laundry and cleaning, and what-not.

Yesterday was nice. I got in to confession, received very good advice along with the absolution, and then was blessed to hear a homily that seemed to speak to my soul as if it was meant for me alone (don't you love it when that happens?)  Our friend Fr. Tom came over in the afternoon and we had dinner together, homemade ice cream for dessert.  I spent a little time knitting before going to bed.  Pretty dull weekend, but I am all for dull these days..."exciting" is in general far too exhausting...

Some plans for this week:  Gemma has another visit with the dermatologist tomorrow.  I think the patch that will not go away in her diaper area is a fungal infection of some sort, as it just doesn't want to clear up, and she has had several prescriptions now.  We have had to put off potty training because she holds back and won't pee because it stings.  Can't make her understand that it would sting less using the potty!

I have a bit of work to do for another altar Bret was consigned to do.  Just a sign to go above the altar.  I have a lot to do before Dominic's birthday, since his main gift will be handmade.  Una still needs my help with a sewing project, and I want to read a lot to and with the kids this week.

It this moment I am grateful for...Sunday confessions before Mass, good homilies that speak to the soul, ceiling fans, ice, the internet, and my Catholic faith.

Some prayer intentions for this week:  that I continue to be brought closer to Jesus through Mary as I prepare for a renewal of my consecration; for Maria Faustina, and for my sister, whose birthdays are Friday and Saturday, respectively; for grace and wisdom in planning for the school year ahead; for both time for Bret to work on the new house, and for jobs to support us in this one (I knew this was going to be a problem...).

Something that makes me smile:  our friend, Fr. Tom...no one can get these boys worked up like he can!  Another Father of Mercy described him as "a kid-magnet".

If you would like to do your own Monday Musings, feel free to grab the header image and run with it!  If you feel so inclined, leave a comment to help me find your post...and have a great week!

  1. Sounds like a wonderful weekend! I love Hobby Lobby. I took Hope out for lunch last Friday (just some mama and me time), and then we went to Hobby Lobby just to look around... well, I walked out with $300 worth of stuff, BUT I only paid $60. I love their clearance aisles! Beautiful stuff, and the house has been refreshed a little. Have a good week! +JMJ+

  2. There's a family company in your neck of the woods - www.beeyoutiful.com - that has some natural products that might help with Gemma's rash. I use their Miracle Salve for many skin problems, diaper rash to sunburn. They also have a probiotic - Tummy Tuneup - which might help clean up her intestinal tract.

  3. Thanks, Katherine. I only turned to the dermatologist when my own "miracle salve" didn't work (I developed one for one of my sons who used to get blistering diaper rashes frequently). I have tried manuka honey, too, which is supposed to be very healing. but it is always nice to have a new source for natural products, so thank you!

  4. I'm a bit jealous of your confession and homily experience yesterday--we didn't even have a homily, the priest said it was too hot! Anyway, I'm finally back and joining in this week :)

  5. I hope we can get up to FoM soon. I've been wanting to go for months, but Justin's schola sang every Sunday in June and we've had at least one sick child ever since the end of June. And now religious education will be beginning again soon.
