Monday Musings--September 6th, 2010

Right Now:  6:00, a cool 54 degrees, the sound of our cow's bell ringing as she grazes, the honking of a lone goose flying over the pond and the cawing of distant crows.  The house is peaceful...for now.

This Weekend:  It was very busy.  We left the house early on Saturday morning to go into Bowling Green,  stopping first at the Mennonite community to pick up feed.  In town we went to Hobby Lobby (I am proud to say that I managed to stick to my list and not give in to temptation!), to Goodwill, to Aldi, to Walmart and to Lowes.  We made it home by mid-afternoon, I spent an hour unpacking groceries and purchases and stuck a roast in the oven.  I finally sat down at 7:30 to watch Breakfast at Tiffany's, which, if I have seen it before, I have certainly not seen in the last 3 decades or so.  I am afraid I was a bit "underwhelmed."

Sunday--the feast of Bl. Mother Teresa of Calcutta--we went to a later Mass than usual, and once home I did a little general tidying up in our schoolroom. Bret replaced broken handles on the schoolroom cabinets so that we can keep Gemma out of them, now that she is at the Into Everything stage.  He also replace a broken safety gate between the schoolroom and my workroom.  I also baked a cheesecake for my mom's birthday, which was actually on Friday.

The weather could not be nicer than it has been this weekend!  Sunny, slightly breezy, in the high 70's.  My absolute ideal in weather perfection.

Some Plans for the Week:  Tomorrow will be busy in preparation for my dad coming in from Charlotte.  I have to defrost some steaks, steam mop the floors, wash Una's bedding (she is graciously giving up her room for her grandfather's visit), clean the bathrooms and work a bit on my menu plans.

We got the most appalling electric bill this month, and I need to contest it, as I keep the thermostat set at 80 degrees and turn it off at night, just keeping the ceiling fans on unless we are all sweating.  There has got to be a mistake!

We will ease into school this week by looking at out texts and reading introductions.  I'll give the kids placement tests for spelling.  Otherwise, I think we will just try to enjoy Dad's visit.

If I Find Some Time for Myself, I Would Like To:  KNIT!  I always love knitting, but this early-morning chill in the air has me fantasizing about pullovers, cardigans, mittens and hats in all sorts of beautiful yarns...!

Special Prayer Intentions:  For Dad's safe journey tomorrow, for Gemma's rash to clear up so I can go back to cloth diapers; for my own little annoying health issues to come to a fair end but also for the grace to bear them with perfect resignation, come what may, for my dear friend Cindy and all her intentions, as she celebrates her birthday on Friday.

Something That Makes Me Smile:  Watching my children as they watched Prince Caspian last night and my heart so full, seeing them all together and knowing that I had a part in their creation...

If you would like to join me in posting a bit about this past weekend and your plans for the week ahead, go on and grab the header image and link back here so that I can see your post.  Have a blessed week!

  1. Wishing you a fun, relaxed visit with your dad! And, good for you at Hobby Lobby... I am always so tempted by everything when I am in there... mainly by seasonal decor, the birdhouses, and the beading supplies. Peace and you are in my prayers! +JMJ+
