Monday Morning Musings May 17th, 2010

Right now... it is 7:40.  Rather a late start this morning, but I had some research to do on the internet.  This morning we have an errand to run, so I don't expect much schooling to get done anyway.  We will try to do math, spelling and reading today.

This past weekend... Friday we shopped in the afternoon and picked up some things for Sebastian's birthday dinner--the request was for BBQ ribs and his favorite corn casserole.  Saturday was nice enough.  My dear Number One Son had his birthday celebration in the afternoon, and was so sweet in his excitement.  He got the cake he requested and the Star Wars Lego stuff his heart had been pining for, so he was one happy boy.  He also got an assortment of Sculpey modeling compound and sculpting tools.  He is quite good at sculpting, and was nearly out of the stuff he received for Christmas.

In the evening we watched disc 2 of Jane Eyre.  We all really enjoyed it.  I'm a sucker for these costume dramas...

Yesterday we went to Mass at the Fathers of Mercy, and the children and I all went to confession.  I was so exhausted that a lay down for an hour after we got home--well, I think it was nearly and hour before the little guys broke out into a noisy argument and I got up.  I spent the time after dinner watching Andy Griffith on DVD with the kids and knitting.

Some plans for this week:  School, haircuts (oh yeah, I put those off again.  I do hate cutting hair!), more mulching in the garden beds if we can find a spot of dry weather, cleaning floors (I've been putting that off too long as well!) and making granola again.

If I can find some time for myself, I want to... work a bit on the period dress for Una.  The muslin I made last week was a help, as trying it on we found she needed a bigger armhole and neckline.  I want to cut out all the pieces for the dress and lining this week and hopefully get a start in sewing it together.  I have ordered ribbon for the sash, buttons and piping for the trim.

I hope to finish the body of the sweater I'm knitting for Gemma.  I am dying to start something else.  I notice that most knitters seem to have several projects going at once, but I try to do one at a time, plus I always have a straight-forward baby bib on a set of needles for some "brainless" knitting when I am unable to concentrate.

Special prayer intentions: continued prayers for my friend Cindy and her family, as they move toward possibly selling their place and purchasing another, closer to the Fathers of Mercy and the opportunity to assist at Mass daily again; prayers for Our Holy Father and for all priests, most especially for the Deacon and two Brothers of the Fathers of Mercy who are to be ordained to the priesthood and temporary diaconate respectively next Saturday.

Something that makes me smile:  This lovable nine-year old goof in need of a haircut.  He was the most trying toddler.  He hit "the Terrible Twos" at 15 months and didn't leave them until some time after he turned seven.  But he has changed and matured so much in the last two years or so.  I am so proud of the funny, capable, sensitive, polite young man he is becoming.  Even if his recent Lego obsession is grating on my nerves...

If you want to borrow the header image and do your own Monday Morning Musings, go ahead  and let me know in the comments so I can read your post.  Link back to mine, if you would.  Have a blessed week!

  3. Do not pass go, do not collect $200....I did not post a "musings" yesterday. :( We were in Florida for my cousin's graduation and stayed over instead of leaving Sunday as planned and spend the whole of Monday driving through storms to get home. I'll get back on track next Monday.

My very own 9 year old (almost 10 eeek) has a lego obsession as well, he's introduced them to his 5 year old brother also. Legos are probably one of the most unpleasant things to step on at 3am in a dark hallway.
