Singles of all colors seeking mates

Got your attention, didn't I? Bet I get some disappointed lonely folks from Google, too.
This is what 4 years-worth of mate-less socks looks like. Where on earth are their partners??

  1. Hey - is that one of my socks???

Once I was doing laundry at the seminary and, as you might guess, more socks went in than came out. Actually, no socks came out at all. After a brief search I noticed the black goo on the inside of our 50-year-old dryers (I'm not kidding - these are vintage 1960s machines). Some of it was impossible to scrape off. All my socks had been destroyed, and I had to make a trip to Socks-R-Us.

  2. NO HONKIN WAAAAY!!!! How can you possibly have that few socks without mates??? I have a running basket with about 40 in it--every year or so I pitch a bunch--which brings the mates out of the woodwork and then THEY wait in the basket...I use 'em for dustrags and once put one on a kittens head-kitty did not care for it so much. Your title is a KILL!

  3. Nadja, that doesn't look too bad to me - I have 6 months worth of socks in a huge moving box. Of course we have a dog that likes to carry around socks in his mouth too. I have an old friend who uses socks as cleaning rags.

  4. There are a few missing from the bunch--Bret always buys the same grey athletic socks, so whenever there are two singles, I match 'em up. There are two in there that don't even belong to anyone in our household!

  5. Deacon, that is just gross: black goo dwelling at the back of the dryer and eating socks...it's like Dr. Seuss gone bad or something...

  6. I've got a basket of those at my house.

    We could be in-laws! :)

  8. Do you have a front end loader? I never lost a sock until we got one. I do believe the front loaders suck them into the drain.

  9. No, actually I have a top loader. Wouldn't it be funny if they one day find Elvis and Amelia Earhart, and they are sitting around talking amid 20 million odd socks...?
