Monday Musings--22 April 2013

Right now...8 O'clock, and I need to get up and get breakfast on the table!!

This weekend...was pretty peaceful and uneventful.  The weather was lovely on Saturday, so Bret took the day to go up to the KY property with all the boys and clean up.  They cleaned all around the inside and outside of the house and delivered some of our old bales of hay to a Mennonite acquaintance to be used as mulch (it was a trade for our pig).  Meanwhile, we girls had the house to ourselves, and it was delightful!  No noise or fighting from 9:00 a.m. until after 4 p.m.!  Gemma drew pictures and watched some cartoons on dvd, Una and I worked on our writing, and I finished a gift I am making someone, cut out some pajama bottoms I'm sewing up for Una, and baked a loaf of "Spotted Dick" (what's commonly known as Irish Soda Bread in this country) for Sunday breakfast.  Delicious, but it came out quite lopsided!

Yesterday was another lovely day, if a bit chilly in the morning.  Went to Mass at the Chapel of Divine Mercy stayed after a bit chatting with friends and with one of the fathers, who leaves today for a month-long mission in Australia.  Afterwards, we headed into Bowling Green to pick up groceries for the week, and then finally home.  By the time we were home, the day was pretty much over.

I was awake from 1:00 a.m. until 2:30 or thereabout.  Gemma is going through another phase of thrashing about and yelling in her sleep, and after the third time, I couldn't get back to sleep.  Seems she is having a little trouble with her arthritis lately, too, in spite of the daily cod liver oil she takes.  For two nights in a row she has woken up in the night with joint pain, last night in her ankle.  Ibuprofen and a heating pad are the remedy, and she usually gets back to sleep quickly, but I'm not so fortunate!

Some plans for this week:  I have Una's pajamas to finish up and a few little gifts to wrap for Una, who's birthday is tomorrow.  I can't believe that she's only 4 years away from 18.  It makes me feel a bit sick to my stomach, actually, as I find it quite frightening how quickly the years are passing by!  Call it motion sickness...
I also have to order a few things for Sebastian's birthday (in 3 weeks), and make some dental appointments for the kids next month.  And I really need to put away some of the winter clothing to make room for the spring and summer clothes.  I tend to put that off until I can no longer.

If I find some time for myself, I would like to...work on my writing.

I am grateful for...pleasant weather, not having a coughing fit in the last day or two, the cow producing a little more milk with the spring grass coming in, my sister's colitis improving somewhat in the last week.

Some prayer intentions for this week:  For Una, that she may continue the way she is going--there isn't anything about her I would change if I could; for Ian and Myra, who also have birthdays this week; for my sister's continued improvement; for work at Bret's place of employment to become a bit more steady; for vocations to the priesthood, and particularly to the Fathers of Mercy.

Something that makes me smile:  Gemma getting a ride with her big brothers.
