Monday Musings--23 July 2012

Right now...I am listening to Erik Mongrain's Air Tap, and have fallen in love with acoustic guitar all over again.  Omigosh it's good...

Una spent the night with a friend, and so the house seems a bit off kilter in her absence.  Sebastian is out mowing before it gets too hot.  I think we will fill up the kiddie pool my sister gave us and hope the water warms up enough this afternoon for the kids to get into it.

This weekend...was pretty uneventful.  On Saturday, Bret took the big boys to the property to help him do a few things, and the younger boys were dropped off at my sister's to play with their cousins.  We girls--Una, Gemma and myself--stayed home.  There was a mountain of laundry to fold, and other little things to take care of. It was nice to do those things in relative quiet.  I also managed to watch the movie Shine (I haven't seen it in maybe 5 or 6 years) with Geoffrey Rush.  I do think it a wonderful film.

Yesterday was lovely.  Fabulous homily by Fr. George McInnis, CPM (I do so look forward to his homilies whenever he is the celebrant!), and chatting with nice people after Mass.  It was all very good.

Spent the evening getting a giveaway post together!  Yes, today begins the Armadillo Dreams giveaway (putting up that post in a few minutes).

Some plans for this week...more school planning.  The Latin program I am looking at right now for Una is something like $300, but it will cover two years of high school or one year of college Latin, and promises to deliver more than just a dabbling in the language.  It is a lot of money.  Which is why I am hesitating so...

We also have a visit to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital on Wednesday.  Just a checkup/ultrasound for Gemma's weird horseshoe kidney, to make sure it's growing properly.  We have a nice big Etsy order to finish up--a "party-pack" of 20 wooden swords--so we'll all be sitting around doing a lot of sanding.

If I find time for myself, I would like to...get back to work on my February Lady Sweater, finish Chesterton's The Ball and the Cross, work on my writing and sew up some skirts for the girls.  Obviously, I have too many hobbies and I will have to either give a tiny bit of attention to each, or drop some this week in order to make progress on others.  Decisions, decisions...

I am grateful for...good homilies; good friends; big orders for our Etsy shop; Erik Mongrain; the tooth powder I mixed up (seriously, my teeth feel like I just had them cleaned at the dentist's, and they even look whiter!); summer fruits; the quiet time on Saturday to figure out what the heck I had messed up on my FLS and getting it sorted out!

Prayer intentions for this week: for Bret's CT scan to come back fine; for Gemma's ultrasound to show a healthy, growing kidney; for a marriage in jeopardy; for Hannah, and for a private intention.

Something that makes me smile:  The Peterson Farm Brothers video...it's going viral!

Have a great week!  And comeback soon to enter the giveaway!

  1. Hurray, I can comment today. I hope Gemma's checkup goes well and that all is well! A party pack of swords sounds like jolly fun. And we just started The Ball and the Cross - I gave it to Anna for her bday and we're reading it aloud.

  3. Sure, Diane...Wellness Mama has a good recipe http://wellnessmama.com/5252/remineralizing-tooth-powder-recipe/, but I made my own from what I had on hand. To be honest, I did't measure anything. I used calcium-magnesium powder, baking soda, ground sage, xylitol (for sweetness and the fact that it is supposed to suppress the development of bacteria in the mouth), peppermint oil and a few drops of tea-tree oil. I put it through the electric coffee grinder in small batches, and sifted it through a fine sieve. I love it! I don't know if I'll ever go back to toothpaste.
