Monday Musings--9 April 2012

Right now...it is 5:30 a.m.  I got out of bed at 4:10 with a really sore throat, which means that the cold that the kids have had all this past week has finally caught up with me in spite of extra vitamin C, zinc and garlic capsules.  Oh well...

This weekend...was very, very busy.  On Saturday I baked a cheesecake, cleaned, bathed little ones and trimmed fingernails, ironed clothes and put together Easter baskets.

Easter Sunday was very nice.  The Mass was lovely and the children well behaved.  I am not fond of the post-Mass egg hunt, however.  Too much candy.  All the kids did all afternoon was eat candy, and they still have quite a lot left over.  Although I grew up in Germany where any special occasion without chocolate and sweets would be unthinkable, I am less and less a fan of sugar, and would cut out 90% if it would not cause a rebellion in my home (not to mention sedition from my husband, who has much more of a sweet-tooth than do I).  Blech.  I'll be glad when it is all gone!  Although I do bake now and then, and we make ice cream a few times a month, candy is not something we have around the house generally.

Some plans for this week:  Hm.  I really haven't made any, as I have been so focused on Easter.   I do need to work on a couple of things for Una's birthday, which is on the 23rd. I am thinking that we will be doing some school this week, as we did none last week.  I have been reading aloud Where the Lilies Grow (our Wildcraft! game sort of sparked the interest), and I would like to finish it, if my sore throat allows.

If I find some time for myself, I would like to...find something to knit!  I have been going over my favorite patterns on Ravelry, but I haven't settled on anything yet.

I am grateful for...so much beautiful weather this spring, although the hay crop could really use some rain!  I am grateful to be homeschooling; I am thankful that my dad's surgery seems to have been a success, although he still has some post-operative pain from the incision (they removed a damaged disc).

Some prayer intentions for this week:  For once it seems I have nothing in particular I want to pray for, just for those things which are always in my prayers...health for my family; Bret's safety on the road and at work; those graces which I and my family stand in need of; my nephew Matthew; the families of my friends and so forth.

Something that makes me smile:  Gemma wearing one of Una's old dresses...
