Monday Musings--October 4th, 2010

Right Now:  5:41, dark and 41 degrees.  The house is absolutely quiet.  Gemma actually slept through the night, waking only once and going back to sleep with her pacifier.

This Weekend:  Very busy, as have been all my weekends since school began.  Friday we hit the thrift stores looking for clothes.  Una still needs boots for this winter, Gemma needs some pullovers and long-sleeved shirts and tights, and I myself needed a few things as well.   We did manage to find a few things and we made a day of it, stopping afterwards to eat a take-out pizza in the park.

On Saturday I was on my feet just about the entire day.  Bret worked on fencing, and I washed, hung, took in and folded a couple of loads of laundry, made two batches of butter and three loaves of banana bread, sliced and froze some bell peppers that were going to go bad if I didn't, and was about to make pesto--but I tasted the basil and it was too late--the leaves were becoming too strong, almost a camphor taste.  So I gratefully abandoned that project.

Sunday was lovely, although the morning was rushed as always.  Bret made breakfast and we went to Mass at the Fathers of Mercy.  We didn't stay long afterward, as we had some groceries to pick up and I had things to do at home in preparation for the week.  I did manage to read a couple of chapters of The Penderwicks on Gardam Street to the boys (who would have thought that they'd like a book about four sisters?) and I finished another leg warmer for Gemma.

Some Plans for the Week:  Begin The Changing of the Wardrobe in earnest.  It's downright chilly this morning, and the high is expected to be only around 61 degrees today.  This hateful chore will take me all week, as I can manage only a bit per day.  I want to make out an October reading list, including books on the season of autumn, on various saints whose feasts we celebrate this month, and on Christopher Columbus.  I would like to do the same for November and December if all goes well and I can find the time.  I also need to start on some other knitting projects (oh no!  I'm becoming one of those knitters who has several projects going all at the same time!) and finish Gemma's second pair of corduroy pants.

If I Find Some Time for Myself, I Want To:  get my hair cut!

Some Prayer Intentions:  for patience and calm as we enter our fourth week of school; for Bret's jobs to go well this week; for a relatively healthy fall and winter for ourselves and all our friends and family.

Something that Makes Me Smile:  Gemma with a head scarf.  She won't let me put a barrette in her hair, but she will let me tie a scarf on...

  3. I did Monday Musings for the first time today! What a great way to put my thoughts in order.

Question: How do you keep the scarf on Gemma's head? Whenever I try to put anything on my girls' head, they take it off in seconds.

  4. Beth: Gemma does take it off eventually, usually within fifteen minutes or so. But if she sees me with a barrette, she actually runs away from me!
