Whew!

We made it through the first day of school, although it was a bit hairy with the little guys interrupting and arguing and not wanting to participate in the quiet activities I had picked out for them. And this afternoon I got two apple cakes baked and some apple slices frozen for pie.

Hey, while we're here, would you like to see our school room? It used to be the carport, and it's my favorite room in the house because I designed it. I photographed about 180 degrees because there is nothing much at the other end of the room--it is sort of an entryway/mudroom area. The area on the other side of the bank of cabinets is my bindery/sewing/craft area. The idea is that when the kids are all old enough to need only minimal supervision, I can go there and do some work and still be present to help out when needed.

  2. Wow! It's really nice! Our school room tuned into the toy room and now we school on our old dining room table in the family room. I really enjoy it in the winter when we have the woodburning fireplace going, it is so cozy. But I really like all your sunshine and brightness!

I hope you got to sit down and rest this evening and of course eat some apple cake!

  3. The books for the three scholars are in the white bins in the middle shelf. I have my "Teacher Stuff" in the cabinet with the blackboard doors. And the children's library--3 bookcases--is in the playroom, which will be a bedroom when Dominic moves out of his crib (I have a bunk bed,a single and a crib all in one room right now).

Computer is in the office, which is why I wish I had a laptop!

In the winter we tend to use the dining room, too...I try not to heat the schoolroom in winter to cut heating costs, and it is cozier near the kitchen in the winter.

  4. Oh, it's so pretty, Nadja! So bright and cheery! And so nicely set up. I'd love to do something like that with our garage apartment. It's currently being used for storage, but I think with a little work (okay, a LOT of work) I could make it into a nice schoolroom for us. When the time comes for the make-over, I'll be sure to check with you for tips!

  6. Just discovered your blog. I love it! I'm adding you to my list. You and your family remind me a little of my friend Kimberly (Catholic Family Vignettes). We all attend the Traditional Latin Mass in our town and have a wonderful community of Catholic families. Kimberly and her husband live on a farm, and she homeschools the remaining 6 of her 9 kids. (Yup, nine!) You can see her blog listed on my sidebar.

God bless you and your wonderful family. :-)

  8. Thank you, Josette! It's the only room in the house I designed from scratch, so I'm rather partial to it myself!
