Sick baby

The plan was for me to take the baby and go to bed early last night, as I've been averaging less than 6.5 hours a night and am feeling it keenly. That was the plan, anyway, but in the evening Gemma began to feel warm, and by bedtime she had a 101.2 temperature. And she didn't want to sleep. At 10:30, with her still up, I made up the sofa bed in the living room and she and I moved out there. More room in that bed for us, and she was "talking" loudly enough that she'd have awakened everyone else in the house. She finally dozed off. At 12:30 I changed a dirty diaper, and at 3:00 when she woke me, I took her temperature again. 102.8. She didn't get back to sleep until 4:45. At that point I couldn't get back to sleep.

I hate having sick children, especially babies. I just want the world to stop turning so that I can do nothing but hold and nurse and watch the baby all day.

Okay, so the butter, the baking and the gift wrapping will not get done today. On today's revised schedule: lots of read-alouds, Christmas coloring sheets and maybe watching The Polar Express.

  1. Poor sweetie. You wish it could be you instead of them. Olivia has had a cough for a week now and every time she coughs I feel so sad for her. I hope she feels better soon!

  2. Poor little lamb! My little Peanut brought home the flu from school and passed it to Cupcake and me...we were sick for two weeks! Thank God I had it worse than both of the girls combined and that they're better now. Hopefully your little one will be all better soon! I'll say a prayer for her.

  3. Poor girl. Poor mama. I hope little Gemma is feeling better soon, and that no one else catches what she has.

  4. Oh, poor little one! We are a family of nine (as you know:), but my point is, last week we had four ear infections (the baby had her first sick visit ever at 17 months!), one case of tonsillitis, and the rest of us were just extremely congested and coughing the night away. We're still on the mend. I woke myself up coughing this morning.

Hope Gemma is better soon, and that you get some rest, too. I always wish I could just climb into bed, snuggle with the baby, and watch an old black and white movie. Seldom works out that way! Try to rest, Nadja.

  5. Poor little girl. I'll keep you all in my prayers.

  6. Poor little Gemma - lots of prayers and hugs from all of us - especially her friend Anna Grace.

And hugs to you too - so hard on mama.

    Hope things are better.

  7. kiss that sweet baby.
and sit with her all you can.
    everything else can wait....
    praying her fever goes down.
my heart always aches when my kids are sick...
