Mid-Week Madness

Well, a couple of weeks have passed since Monday, and we are still all here.  I am fairly happy with a number of changes we made in the kids' curriculum this year.  Sebastian is really having fun with Teaching Textbooks for grade 4.  I would have loved to get it for Una's pre-algebra as well, but with budget considerations, it didn't seem quite so economical (Gabriel will be using the 4th grade level next year, but it will be three to four years before Sebastian is in pre-algebra).  She is using the Key to Algebra workbooks, and hopefully will switch to Teaching Textbooks Algebra some time after the new year--and tax return time.
Una is using Lingua Mater for writing this year.  So far, so good.  And the boys are using Writing With Ease, and they haven't threatened to leave home yet (I have some very reluctant writers here!).  Spelling Power, which I was given this year, is great for the boys, as they have real trouble with spelling, but is overkill for Una, who is an instinctively good speller.
Adrian is in Kindergarten, and making sure that I have time to work with him for a little while each day has been a challenge, but I am determined, and so far--day three, mind you--he has been cooperative and even eager.  He is an extremely headstrong, willful and temperamental soul, so I have been holding my breath, waiting for the confrontation.

Gemma is also challenging.  She loves to be in the thick of it, normally on top of a table since, she has just learned how to climb.  It makes schooling a real circus sometimes.  Still, the kids have declared the last three days a success, and I'll just have to take their word for it.

  1. It does sound like a success... I agree with your kids! Gemma looks like she might just be a trouble-monkey! She is CUTE! Marin likes to be in the mix, too. Have a great day! +JMJ+
